Why Volunteers Matter

The Courtroom Accountability Project depends on trained volunteers, interns, and investigators who believe that truth should be documented and accountability should not depend on wealth or status.

Our volunteers help review records, organize evidence, assist with public education, support investigations, and help people who are often ignored by the systems that are supposed to protect them.

Ways to Help

Investigation Support

Assist with witness information, public records, case organization, document review, timelines, and investigative research.

Public Records Research

Help locate court records, police reports, property records, agency filings, public documents, and historical materials.

Media & Publishing

Support articles, podcasts, video archives, transcripts, social media posts, evidence summaries, and public accountability stories.

Technology & AI

Help improve workflows involving transcription, case management, SharePoint, automation, searchable archives, and AI-assisted review.

Client Support

Assist with intake organization, follow-up, document gathering, and helping clients understand what information we need.

Private Investigator Training

Qualified interns may receive structured training toward private investigative work, including case review, ethics, records, and field support.

Training Future Investigators

We are especially committed to helping women, minorities, students, returning citizens, and people from underserved communities gain access to investigative training and private investigator licensing pathways.

Through the Cheryl Ellis Scholarship Fund, qualified applicants may receive support with training, supervision, licensing fees, internships, and paid assignments when available.

Community members who want to help document misconduct and support accountability.
People interested in becoming licensed private investigators.
Researchers, writers, editors, video creators, and records specialists.
Former clients or family members who want to help others navigate similar problems.

What We Expect

Volunteers and interns must be reliable, ethical, careful with confidential information, and willing to follow instructions. Much of our work involves sensitive records, traumatic events, legal disputes, and vulnerable people.

We value compassion, accuracy, persistence, and respect for the people who trust us with their stories.
